Performing on stage for a bigger crowd is very different compared to performing for a birthday party. Props got to be big and visible, actions has got to be bigger too.

Nevertheless, on stage, the crowd "respects" you being on stage and they will give you their attention. Unless your show becomes draggy and boring, they will tend to look or even walk away.
The ultimate challenge is not to keep the crowd's attention, but to ge them excited! Magic is a form of entertainment, and the nature of an entertainment is to entertain. Thus a successful performance will means that the audience felt entertained.
A good magician always know how to bring up the energy level of the crowd and bring joy and laughter to everybody!
